Ahmad Akl
Ahmad received his Bachelor of Science (BSc) from the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates in 2006 with a GPA of 4.0/4.0, and his Master of Applied Science (MASc) from the University of Toronto in Canada in 2010, all in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Ahmad is currently pursuing his PhD in biomedical engineering, and his work is focused on developing smart systems for health monitoring. Ahmad has worked as a teaching assistant (TA) for many of the undergraduate courses in the electrical and computer engineering field at the University of Toronto, and is also working toward the Advanced University Teaching Preparation (AUTP) Certificate at the University of Toronto. Ahmad knows programming in Matlab, C, and Java. His research interests include gesture recognition, activity recognition, compressive sensing, artificial intelligence, smart systems, and machine learning.
Azad Ashraf
Azad is currently working as a research engineer at
McMaster University as well as teaching students
there. He has a Masters and Bachelors in Chemical
Engineering from the United States and an MBA in
international marketing from the United Kingdom. He
has taught in the UK for 2 years in public high
school and Colleges. He has also taught in
Westchester Community College in New York, USA and
an American International University in Bangladesh
for more than 3 years. His expertise is in math,

business sector. He has a special technique which he
believes is very effective in learning especially in
visualization and practical experiences. He is also
trained in SEN (special education need for
underdeveloped children). He has four publications
from the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) from
the U.S. He loves to teach and see his students
succeed with an effective learning process.
Dr. Ismael El-Samahy
Ismael has recently received his Ph.D. in Electrical
and Computer Engineering from The University of
Waterloo in June 2008, where his research work was
in the field of power systems operation and control
in the context of deregulation of the power sector.
Currently he is working as an Engineer at the
Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) of
Ontario. Ismael has more than 6 years of teaching
experience. He has been involved in teaching several
undergraduate Electrical Engineering courses at the
University of Waterloo, as a teaching assistant
(TA). He received several awards as best TA of the
Department based on students ratings. In the last
term of his Ph.D., Ismael taught a 2nd year
Mechanical Engineering course, as a Sessional
Instructor, in which he was entirely responsible for
course designing, managing course administration,
