The Student Tutoring Network (TSTN) is an independent company and is not affiliated with any university, college or other academic institution.

Language Tutors

TSTN tutors are highly qualified. Some have several university degrees while many have won numerous academic awards and have also been recognized for their achievements outside of the classroom. Please note that not all of our tutors are listed here as tutors are not obligated to provide profiles. Please also note that all of our tutors are independent contractors, and are not employees or agents of TSTN for any purpose whatsoever.

Malak Al-Nahas

Malak is a French teacher. She completed her Bachelors of French language literature degree from the University of Damascus in Syria, which has been accepted by the University of Toronto. She has completed language courses in Arabic, Latin, French, and English and has a wide variety of experience in private, and public schools. She has been teaching French and Arabic for over than ten years in Canada and has lived in several other countries including Syria, France, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia. It is a pleaser to have her in our network.

Sonea Arutiunean

Having graduated from the University of Toronto with distinction, Sonia has been successfully tutoring French. Her major was Second Language Learning (French), a specialization that included linguistics, literature and teaching courses in French. Since learning French was not Sonia’s first experience with foreign languages, she possesses broad knowledge in this area. She understands very well the difficulties faced by students, and is ready to share her tips to ease the learning process.

Ghada Chahrour

Ghada has a Masters of Science degree from McGill University. She is a highly motivated tutor with a great passion for teaching for more than 8 years. She worked as a teaching assistant as well as a research assistant at McGill University after her graduation in 2004. She is well known for her clarity in explaining the various concepts as well as her ability to speak audibly and keeping the student very alert and focused. She has the skills of making the student absorb the information with minimum effort from the student’s side.

Ghada , originally from Lebanon, also obtained the certification of Teaching Arabic for Speakers of Other Languages (TASOL) from Education Canada College. She teaches the Arabic Language to beginners as well as advanced levels. Ghada offers you the opportunity of learning how to read and write Arabic in a very short period of time that could be only a month long. Her interactive methods and skills will make you enjoy the lesson as you are learning it, and you will be looking forward to your next tutoring session with her.

Fabio Crespin

Fabio graduated in business administration and has been working for the past 10 years in the field of social economic development.  Fabio is fluent is several languages and has been tutoring in Portuguese (his mother tongue) and Spanish for the past years. Fabio is proud to have taught some students that have started from scratch and reached conversational level in a few months. Tutoring in a very relaxing and interesting manner is what Fabio considers his main asset.

Stephanie DeProphetis

Stephanie graduated as a member of the Deans Honour Roll with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French studies from York University. She is also well educated in Italian and has completed courses in Spanish as well. As part of her Arts degree at York, she completed a study abroad program in Saint Etienne, France at Université Jean-Monnet where she gained significant first-hand insight to the French language and culture. Here in Canada, she has had a variety of experiences teaching students in Italian and French at the elementary and high school levels. She will be continuing her education at York University this year where she will be working towards a Bachelor of Education degree in their consecutive education program. In the meantime, she is very excited to be a part of The Student Tutoring Network and loves sharing her passion for foreign languages with students who are eager to learn.


Misa Fukukawa

Misa has completed a Masters of Education degree at the University of Toronto, focusing on Language Education. She is a native speaker of Japanese and has taught English, math and Japanese to elementary, junior high and high school students in Japan for 4 years. Additionally, she has over 2 years Japanese teaching experience in Canada. Currently, she is teaching Japanese at the University of Toronto. She has a National Teaching Certificate of English and Japanese. Misa is a very energetic, positive, friendly teacher. She enjoys language teaching, meeting new students, playing sports, reading, and travelling.

Sara Garza

Sara is a native Spanish speaker. She is originally from Monterrey, Mexico where she was born and raised. She holds and International Masters of Business Administration (IMBA) from Schulich School of Business, York University where she majored in Strategy. While pursuing her masters she tutored York University’s undergrad and masters level students in Spanish with excellent reviews from people she has helped in the past. Her hobbies include Romance languages, in addition to Spanish she also speaks English and Italian, and can read and understand Portuguese. She has lived in 4 different countries over the past 2 years which has allowed her to better understand and appreciate diversity and different cultures.

Patricia Guarin

Mrs. Guarin is a native Spanish speaker from Colombia (South America) with more than 10 years of experience teaching Spanish as a second language in Canada and the United States. She studied Law and ran her own practice in her home country. She has had the opportunity to work with school age kids, university level students, as well as professionals in fields such as nursing, and law. She has developed her own teaching methods, and will customize her lessons to fit the needs of the student.

Jessica Israelstam

Jessica obtained an Honours BA in Psychology from York University, graduating Summa Cum Laude (the highest honour). She is Canadian, and English is her first language, but she is also proficient in French. She received the English award in high school and excelled in Psychology, English, and French in university. Jessica has many years of experience in tutoring and editing, including experience helping ESL, Montessori, and pre-IB/IB students. Jessica can help you with your reading, spelling, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and speaking in English or French. For English, she tutors all grades/ages. For French, she tutors kindergarten to grades 9 or 10. Jessica also offers tutoring in university Psychology courses (including Introductory Psychology, Personality, Social, Developmental, Abnormal, Motivation, Psyc. of Adolescence, Health Psyc., Psyc. of Women, Behavioural and Personality Disorders, Counselling, and Honours Thesis). She can also provide you with essay writing help for a variety of courses. With Jessica's help, her students' knowledge and grades have improved significantly.

Jessy Jung

Jessy has 10 years of experience teaching English and 2 years teaching Korean. She is a passionate, diligent and humorous teacher, which makes time fly and students enjoy her lessons. Her lessons are designed to teach real daily Korean language and also meet students' needs according to their interests. Come and enjoy learning Korean with Jessy!

Muhammud Tawfic Khadaroo

Tawfic is a native French speaker from Mauritius and has an Honours degree in French and English from the University of South Africa, where he also studied translation. With fourteen years experience as a French language and literature teacher back in his home country teaching students from middle/high school as well as adults, he has become an expert in French linguistics and grammar and a very good critic of French literature (mostly from France). He was also the Head of the French Department with academic and administrative responsibilities. Tawfic is passionate about teaching and always wants to learn new things. His areas of interest are French plays, reading and soccer.

Irina Orlova

Irina is a professional foreign languages translator and tutor (English, Spanish, Russian majors, graduation with Honours). She has highly interesting and valuable work experience in different spheres of translation and tutoring and strives for an individual approach in tutoring and translation. Having received TESL Canada Certification in 2010, Irina's primary focus has been teaching TOEFL and researching cognitive and theoretical linguistics. With linguistic works published by the Linguistics Department of St. Petersburg State University of her hometown, she is actively involved in linguistic research and non-academic writing for a number of Russian and English language publications in Canada.

Irene Sonja Runtic

Irene is a York University graduate with a BA in French Studies and has also earned French Language certificates while studying at the Alliance Francaise Academy of Toronto. With Slovenian as her mother tongue, Irene is fluent in both French and English and has extensive experience tutoring students of all ages both privately and with a prominent, well established Learning Academy in the Toronto region. Irene has been successfully tutoring French for the past ten years.

Emily Rush

Emily is currently a teacher of French and English at a private language school in Toronto. She completed her undergraduate degree at McGill University, where she majored in French and English linguistics and minored in Russian language. She then completed her teaching qualifications (CELTA, Cambridge University) in Montreal. Emily has worked with students from all over the world, and loves to teach and learn new languages. Emily has worked as a tutor for over three years, and is very experienced in teaching French, English and linguistics.

Jona Senk

Jona originally comes from Slovenia, a small country in the heart of Europe, which borders four other countries that all have their own languages. That’s one of the reasons that makes him a tutor for German, Italian and also Croatian/Serbian language. He was born in Germany and has studied the language since elementary school, in total for more than 10 years. As for Italian, which he says is a passion of his, he has studied it for over three years in university. In both countries he used to live and work, which gives him a unique knowledge of the languages. As for Croatian/Serbian language, it was considered his second language, next to Slovenian (which is his mother tongue). He has also a MA in business and a BA in tourism and worked for many years in the tourism industry.  He also tutored languages from his "high school days". His tutoring approach is focussed on conversation, and he tries to give the students the understanding of the language, based on the grammar and the culture, which surrounds the language tutored.

Michael Schwartz  

Michael picked up his first Greek book when he was 12 and was inspired by the classical Greek authors. Graduating from Birmingham University, UK, he had by then extended his love of Classical Greek to Modern Greek – and was inspired by Kazanzakis (author of Zorba) and poets like Kavafy and Seferis. His interests are centred on a people which has experienced every form of government except communism but which has maintained its dignity, hospitality and national pride. Michael's lessons are always structured to students' requirements, whatever their previous knowledge of the language.  Michael's many visits to Greece have increased his knowledge and love of the country and the region, as do olive groves, tavernas, underground rembetika songs and rich, rich red sunsets.

Jeneefer Stanley

Jeneefer is a native speaker of Italian. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto, where she majored in Italian and European Studies. She then completed her Masters of Arts in Italian Studies in 2008. In the same year, she completed her teaching qualifications (CELTA, Cambridge University) in Toronto. Jeneefer is currently a first year student at Niagara University where is pursuing her degree in Education. She loves languages and loves helping people to learn something new.

Haneen Tamari
Haneen is a native Arabic language speaker, holds a Masters of Science in New Media from the University of Luebeck- Germany, a Diploma in Communications from Intercollege Nicosia-Cyprus and a Bachelors in English Literature &Linguistics from the University of Aleppo-Syria. Haneen has over 10 years experience as a professional teacher of Arabic. Her students actively meet their needs of learning the Arabic language whether it is business, tourism, education, or personal.  Besides, Haneen worked as a translator and an interpreter in several international events and facilitated Arabic language as part of her job as a communications counsellor at United Nations Development, Damascus-Syria. Haneen taught Arabic in several language schools like International House Vancouver- BC.  Besides her passion for languages, Haneen is an art photographer, a film maker and an amateur pianist. She is fluent in English, very good in German and converses in Italian.

Qiansi Xu (Ceci)

Ceci is a native speaker of both Cantonese and Mandarin.  She completed her bachelor’s degree in English Language Education in China (Guangdong University of Foreign Studies) and master’s degree in English Language Teaching in England (University of Warwick). In September 2010, she came to Canada to study TESOL (accredited by TESL Ontario) at York University.  Ceci has been a part time teacher/tutor since 2006. She has tutored English, IELTS, Mandarin and Cantonese and has had over 20 students aged from 10 to 40. As a flexible teacher, Ceci always customizes her lessons according to students’ needs.
